How we look after you if you are in care for a long time.
What can I expect if I am in care for a long time?
Looking after your health
Each year you will have an Annual Health Assessment to make sure you get to see a doctor and dentist when you need to.
Education
You will be given a Personal Education Plan to make sure you get the most out of your time at school.
Once you are older (ie aged 16) you will also be given a Pathway Plan (which is your care plan). This will help you start thinking about becoming an adult and gaining your independence (eg planning for college or getting a job and working towards living independently).
Living arrangements
There will be regular reviews to make sure you are in the best place - whether that is in care, or back with your family.
If you are unable to return to your family:
- you may stay long term with a foster carer
- you could be adopted
- you could have a Special Guardianship Order which is a legal arrangement that is more permanent that a foster placement.
